TEN STUDENTS FINALISTS SELECTED FOR FRONT PORCH® NEW FLAVOR CONTEST WITH JOHNSON & WALES UNIVERSITY
CHARLOTTE, N.C. (April 11, 2013) – Ten students were announced as finalists for their Southern-inspired ice cream recipes in The Second Annual Front Porch New Flavor Competition sponsored by Front Porch Carolina Churned Ice Cream and Johnson & Wales University Charlotte Campus.
“This year’s competition really understood the Southernism of the Front Porch brand,” said Babi Alarcon, president at Mooresville Ice Cream Company and Front Porch. “The students were spot-on with understanding the brand and the flavors of the south.”
The ten selected finalists are:
- Deanna Ashcraft – Burst-of-Ambrosia (Morrisville, NY)
- Madison Cullman – Shut your Mouth Sweet Potato Pie (Jacksonville, NC)
- Jade Duncan – Mama’s Flapjacks w/ Bacon (Jamaica, NY)
- Sally Foster- Carolina Blue Berry (Aiken, SC)
- Mary Johnson-Clause – Harvest Pumpkin Spice (Charlotte, NC)
- Marti Kelley – Southern Coffee Explosion (Pineview, GA)
- Ayalah Raphiel – Marvelous Mississippi Mud Brownie (Dallas, TX)
- Erica Sperduto – Brittle Me This? (Brick, NJ)
- Deanna Tutrani – Crazy Carrot Cake (Cheshire, CT)
- Jennifer Wells – Buzzing honey almond (Charlotte, NC)
Of the 53 submitted recipes, these ten finalists were selected and will create their ice cream recipes for a judging event on April 26th at the university. Judges and media guests will be able to mingle and sample the finalists’ creations. Light hors d’oeuvres will also be served.
Each of the 10 finalists will receive a $100 gift card. Then, one will win a Grand Prize of $1,000. The Runner-Up will win $500. Guests of the event will vote for a People’s Choice award, with a prize of $100.
Carolyn Malone, JWU alumna, submitted her Memaw’s Pineapple Upside Down Cake recipe in the contest’s first year, which inspired Front Porch’s newest flavor, Happily Pineapply Upside Down Cake.
